Three construction workers have been hurt in recent weeks in accidents at Ground Zero. One construction worker remains in a coma more than a month later.A 26-year-old man was struck on May 22 when a hose pumping material into a retaining wall under construction broke loose and hit him in the head and upper torso. OSHA is investigating the cause of the accident.
Officials say the other two accidents occurred on June 22 and June 25. One involved an employee falling off a ladder and hurting his hand while working on the eastern edge of the site. In the other accident, an ironworker tripped and broke his ankle during work on the new transit hub under construction.
The first incident, on May 22, is one of the most serious to occur at the site since the cleanup after the September 11, 2001 attacks. The Port Authority has a full-time safety manager, holds weekly meetings with 25 contractors, and sends out periodic bulletins on how to keep the busy site safe.
Have you or a family member been injured in a construction site accident? If so, talking to a Pennsylvania attorney with a track record should be high on your checklist of things to do. Workers compensation may not be enough. You may be eligible for a substantial settlement.
