What are Average Weekly Wages?

Wage Calculations are an important part of determining the amount of benefits due. Not all people receive a constant salary amount, so establishing the average wages becomes an important factor in determining the amount of benefits.

There is more than one method for determining wages. Wages are not simply salary paid, but can also include tips (when they have been reported on tax returns) and certain benefits like room & board. A bonus, vacation pay, and profit sharing can also be considered as wages, but stock options are not included. However, these additional items may be pro-rated over the time period involved in calculating the average wage.

The average wages are as of the date when the injury occurs. In the cae of exposure to a toxic substance, it would be the date of last exposure.
